Creating the future of social support
A Bright Act
BrightAct is a system innovation that became a reality
Everything started with a Hackathon in 2020, a technical competition in product development. Sofie entered with the idea of BrightAct: to build on insights into what is missing in the way organizations collaborate and to address the absence of data-driven solutions within the public sector.
Sofie joined up with Elinor who is an experienced UX designer. Together with their developers, they formed a well-coordinated team with great problem-solving skills. After a fantastic start, they continued to compete and win tech and innovation competitions. In the beginning, they aimed to give away the solution for free to the public sector. It became apparent that the public sector would have a hard time maintaining and developing such a complex solution on its own.
Out of these hackathons and many hours of out-of-hours work BrightAct was born. Today it is a social company run by Sofie with a dedicated group of staff and volunteers that want to see a brighter future.
BrightAct exists today because we act on what society actually needs.
Together with hundreds of organizations and individuals, we created BrightAct to be the first data-driven global safety net for domestic violence.
People have a right to support when breaking the cycle of violence in their lives - we give them a chance to find it. We make the existing societal support more accessible and help people find support when they need it.
We gather resources from the public sector, civic society, academia, and other important organizations and consolidate access through our tools. Together we create real system innovation through collaboration, offering real help to real people.
Sofie Wahlström - Founder and CEO of BrightAct

Stipendium
The jury’s motivation (translated from Swedish): "During the Covid pandemic, it became clear that society lacks coordination across organizational borders. It is particularly noticeable in the coordination of resources for victims of domestic violence. The number of emergency calls from women exposed to domestic violence and calls from children who speak about fights and violence at home has increased significantly during the pandemic.
This year's Göran Bredinger scholarship holder, BrightAct aims to help people living with domestic violence in Sweden and globally. They do this by streamlining and coordinating support and efforts that can give vulnerable people access to important social safety nets. BrightAct's founders Sofie Wahlström and Elinor Samuelsson, are committed and motivated social entrepreneurs who in a short time, with innovative global co-creation, have developed thoughtful technology packaged in an app. Already, pilot projects show great potential for BrightAct to contribute to solving several societal challenges related to domestic violence and the coordination of resources."
